Kim Rae-won offered SBS’s Doctors opposite Park Shin-hye

Hm, Kim Rae-won (Punch) and Park Shin-hye (Pinocchio)? The casting for this drama is far from confirmed, but right now they’re the two leads in contention for SBS’s new medical series Doctors. I don’t know. I will totally eat my words if they end up being a good match, but when the production started out by courting Park Shin-hye and Lee Sung-kyung (Cheese in the Trap), I thought maybe they were going for something light. Courting Kim Rae-won, on the other hand, makes me think it’s going to be a serious medical drama.

The new Monday-Tuesday series comes from writer Ha Myung-hee, of High Society, Warm Words, and Can We Get Married, and tells the story of an incorrigible heroine who’s bold and distrusting of others. She’s a neurosurgery fellow, and she’ll go up against an unfair social hierarchy within the hospital as she overcomes her stubborn ways to become a good doctor.

Lee Sung-kyung is up to play her rival, a neurosurgery fellow and former high school classmate who comes from a wealthy doctor family. She’s bright and happy and loved by everyone, until the person she loves is stolen from her, and she goes dark side.

Kim Rae-won has been offered the role of a gifted neurosurgery specialist. He’s got a lively personality and is so affable that most people trust him right away, and he’s described as a realist through and through. Kim Rae-won’s management released a statement that they’d only received an offer, and no one’s been confirmed for the series yet, so I fully expect them to go a few more rounds before we get a main cast locked down.

Doctors will air following Jackpot on Mondays and Tuesdays in June.

Has me excited too......even though used to seeing her with younger and more popular actors. But, KRW is an actor of repute and Shinhye will benefit from working with artists like him.
Now.....An accomplished director of repute at the helm of the drama should give us a good drama to watch

From the initial synopsis of the female lead in addition to this being an award winning script……the thought of it being a light romantic comedy never came into my mind. The male lead being offered to KSR further reaffirms it having darker tone. Mind you…the last two dramas having a tragic ends for his characters.
To me Shinhye seems ready to venture into more challenging role and subject matter. I , for one have full faith that she can do them well.

Wow, thanks everyone for the update!! This is unexpected news. I didn't think of him as possibility for that particular role. He is a veteran actor, I thought they might choose another young guy for that role since the role calls for a lively personality and affable. I guess it'll be a challenge for him too to play that role since he tend to do dramas with more darker overtones. Or they might change his character to suit him. Hmmm...this drama is getting interesting and wonder how it's going to be pulled off. Is this drama going to light or on the dark serious? Just like I wondered how they will pull off in Pinocchio...lead actress hiccuping but it was done successfully.

But overall I am excited if they decide to take the role. Maybe Shin Hye can learn a bit from him. I hope she wins best actress award instead of just best couple. This year has a lot of good dramas and tough competition. I just hope Doctors will have good director and writer. Fighting!

I didn't expect it to be Kim Rae Won too but i can give him a chance opposite Shin Hye

hello @Maris, we posted at the same time... mianhe... i got excited this morning besides someone lurking waiting for me to finish.. me too @ yummiejeu and @Jenzzy, I feel if KRW confirms, we would have many interesting possibilities... I do want Shinhye to venture out.. few have said she picks 'safe' roles... I don't get it... as I watch her dramas and movies are not the same.


On the 19th, we will see more pictures of Shinhye as she will do the Mamonde fan sign event. Lucky first 100 people. Looking forward to that.

btw.... Lee Min Ho spoke highly of Kim Rae Won ….

Lee Min Ho wants to be a star like Kim Rae Won. His admiration for Kim Rae Won predates their working on Gangham 1970 movie.

"Kim Rae Won was in my first management agency," he told the Korean media outlet News1. "He was a senior colleague who had this aura that made me happy just being able to see him. Even now he's a good brother and senior colleague to me. I think it is a great experience to be able to work with Kim Rae Won after all these years."

In another interview with Star News Lee Min Ho spoke about how well the actors worked together. He said there was never any competition between them. Kim Rae Won always respected his instincts as an actor, even though Lee Min Ho was so much younger and had less experience.

Waiting game for now....

I was looking at pictures of Shinhye at the same table with Krystal, Lee Min Ho, Kim Rae Won among others at the 51st Paeksang Awards....

It just dawn on me that KRW and Shinhye was talking and smiling... much like Jongsuk next to Shinhye pictures before Pinocchio casting...

This is an interesting casting possibility on top of an already interesting casting discussion surrounding upcoming SBS Mon-Tues drama Doctors (formerly Female Gangster Hye Jung). The original title had more flavor but I can see the new title being selected for broader inclusion if the drama is about a group of doctors rather than focused solely on the main character.

Park Shin Hye has been offered the female lead role and now her potential costar has emerged in seasoned leading man Kim Rae Won.

He’s 9 years older than her in real life and doesn’t look aged at all, but it’s still funny to harken back to the olden Hallyu days to imagine the Kim Rae Won who did Attic Cat in 2003 one day being a romantic interest to then child actor Park Shin Hye who did Stairway to Heaven that same year.

This is a curious pairing and not in a bad way for me, more like never thought of it before way. For a drama about neurology doctors at a hospital, SBS could definitely botch the casting right off the bat and other than the unexpected element I think both Kim Rae Won and Park Shin Hye would be promising choices to headline.

As i was much anticipating to hear a confirmation from Shin hye and SALT, this drama has attracted more attention with the possible casting of Kim Rae Won.. Though I still have to watch a piece of work of him, i could say that maybe a collaboration of him and Shin Hye would be a good one..
Needless to say, im confident that Shin Hye could pull off a character that would be assigned to her..
Kim Rae Won, is he into more serious roles? based on my readings of his drama plots in the past and acting skills too.. Definitely a good actor

We would have to wait and see any furtherance on this

btw...It is interesting to even come across some age difference opinions about Park Shin Hye and Kim Rae Won (born 1981) in possible taking up this drama titled, Doctors.... but isn't this only a drama (to entertain or feel the drama for what its worth).. not in real life documentary... it is amusing to pick on their actual ages.

Shinhye has partnered in some of her dramas/movies like Yoon Kye Sang (One Perfect Day) born 1979 or Bong Tae-Gyu (Don't Worry I'm a Ghost) born in 1981, or Lee Wan (Tree of Heaven) born 1984, or Seven (Princess Hours) born 1984, or Yoo Si Yoon (Flower Boy Next Door) born 1986.... and so on

Hello sis @seirazde I also have this feels that Shinhye will do better with seasoned actors.... I miss her previous works... and pretty impressed at her emotions in her characters... my observation only. shy
