Important info to understand better Dalpo's family background situation
Semi-related background info (?) about Dalpo's father

There is talk that the case of Dalpo’s father is being partially based on the 1993 ferry sinking of MV Seohae. Decided to share because the case made me tear up.
The South Korean ferry Seohae (Korean: 서해 페리호; Hanja: 西海페리號) sank on October 10, 1993 in the Yellow Sea near Wido, Buan County, North Jeolla Province. Two hundred and ninety two of the 362 passengers and crew on board were killed. Seventy persons were saved.
At the time, this accident was the largest ferry disaster in South Korea since December 15, 1970, when 323 people on board were killed on the ferry Namyoung (남영호).
Although not documented in the English wikipedia page, one of the major controversies of Seohae’s sinking was the involvement of the captain. [recorded here in Korean, translated roughly below]

At that time, some media outlets reported that witnesses saw the captain escaping from the ship. Since it was true that the captain’s body wasn’t found at that point, this caused a mass controversy and reporters swarmed the captain’s home. Even the police believed the rumour and started investigating the captain.
This caused great psychological damage to the family, since the captain was being blamed for the death of nearly 300 people. The amount of societal pressure can scarcely be imagined. (Remember when the Sewol tragedy pressure caused one of the teachers to kill himself out of guilt?) Rumours spread like wildfire, including some that speculated the captain was misdirecting the ferry to Japan, and more witnesses saying that they had seen the captain escape from the ferry and return home.
In the end, after some days, the captain’s body was found. But the psychological damage to the family cannot be undone. The son of the captain famously yelled at the reporters, “Didn’t you say my father was alive?! Then bring him back to life now!”
Even in 2012, this case was listed as one of the most blatant cases of media misusing their power.
Thus, you can see how all this mirrors the scene in ‘Pinocchio’ where the two boys were being surrounded and questioned by the reporters. The father is thought to have done something wrong that cost people their lives, thought to have escaped because he is guilty and the family was put under fire for it .
Now does this line in the latest trailer make more sense?
Driven by the truth of the incident, the family collapsed.
Of course, this is only speculation and dramas don’t have to be accurate to real-life events, but I thought it was interesting to think about where the writer had come up with a case like this. It makes me more confident that she has a real story to tell here. The writer has started thinking about the story since IHYV ended, so perhaps it’s possible that the sinking of Sewol has caused her to change her script to avoid a direct linkage.
Disclaimer: I am not Korean, so if any Koreans can educate me on how absurd this theory is or isn’t, please do so! :-)
