Actor Song Joong Ki, the bluechip of the year, shared some thoughts about his career and character influences on MBC’s “Section TV Entertainment News.”

Reporters met with him on an undisclosed set for an advertisement shoot. Emerging from the makeup room, the actor was surrounded by cheers from the female staff members as they took in his new dandy image.

Known to be fairly grounded, Song Joong Ki was asked by the reporters if he ever felt the impact of his rising popularity. The actor candidly replied, ”I do feel that they are loving me more than the past. I love it when the ajummas at restaurants give me an extra bowl of rice.”

He then went on to reveal some of his inspirations for his casanova role in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.” The actor confessed to drawing influences from the acting of Kang Dong Won in “Junwuchi“, as well as Johnny Depp from “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

When asked about his plans for future projects, Song Joong Ki replied that he wanted to try his hand at a romantic comedy drama, particularly alongside actress Kim Nam Ju (who is currently a leading role in MBC’s “Queen of Reversals“).

While on the topic of romantic comedies, the actor was asked about the traits of his ideal woman. He simply answered, “A woman that is both cute and sexy.”

Song Joong Ki vacations in Japan

Actor Song Joong Ki left for Japan on December 9th for cable channel QTV’s special program, “I’m Real Song Joong Ki.”

The program will focus on Japanese cuisine and some of the highlights of their culture. Fans will be able to get a taste of Song Joong Ki’s life as an actor, his dreams about love, and his affections towards his family, through his Japanese vacation.

Some of the still cuts released today features the actor posing for the camera in Tsukishima and making a Japanese dish named ‘monjayaki.’

Song Joong Ki commented, “I was always interested in food and often searched for tasty restaurants in Korea. I’ve been wanting to go on a ‘food’-themed vacation, so I’m very excited to be able to taste Tokyo through this opportunity.”

He will be returning to Korea on December 13th, and the program will air in February through QTV.

Song Joong Ki & Yoo Ah In nominated for ‘Best Couple Award’ ???!?

Song Joong Ki and Yoo Ah In from KBS 2TV’s “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” have been nominated for the ‘Best Couple Award’ at the 2010 KBS Drama Awards.

The two played the roles of ‘Yeorim’ and ‘Geol Oh’, which received massive support from fans of the drama as the representative ‘male couple.’ One scene in particular even created a ‘gay scandal’ between the two. Yeorim, who observed Geol Oh putting his life on the line in order to find the person who wrote the fake handbill, tearfully made the following outburst:”What does that make me, the person by your side? Fine, live as you want and get out of my sight.”

Although both actors and producers clarified the scene to be an expression of their deep friendship, it seems as if viewers took it differently, landing the two a nomination for the awards show.

A representative of KBS’s variety team revealed, “Due to the aggressive recommendations and support the press corps have shown, we were able to confidently put the ‘Song Joong Ki and Yoo Ah In’ couple as nominations for the ‘Best Couple Award’. We predict that they will receive just as many user votes as the other hetero couples in the viewers votes.”

Even though the couple is said to be ‘just friends’, if the two should win the award, it would prove to be a great step towards a positive reception of the queer community in Korea!

Song Joong-ki romances Han Ye-seul on the big screen

Sungkyunkwan Scandal’s fashionista Song Joong-ki is heading to the big screen for a rom-com movie, in which he romances Han Ye-seul (Will It Snow For Christmas?). Funny that she’s the noona now, when he was the oppa in Christmas — albeit in the past, so they never actually shared scenes. Also — is it weird that they played siblings in that drama?

The movie is titled 태어나긴 했지만, which means Although I Was Born or Despite Being Born. Song Joong-ki is currently working out the final details of the contract, and plays a guy who’s been unemployed for a while who then decides upon a dream to pursue. He matures as he meets Han, a woman who is only described as a persevering type.

Hm. Not much to go on with that description, but since it’s Song Joong-ki in a romantic comedy, I’m in. He’s fantastic at bringing playful, good-humored characters to life (as we saw in Sungkyunkwan and Triple), but he’s just as good being caring and warm-hearted (as we saw in Will It Snow For Christmas?).

It’s been a year since Song’s last movie (the adorable puppy movie Heart Is 2), and three since Han’s last (the flawed but easy-to-watch Miss Gold Digger). The director is Kim Jung-hwan, who seems to specialize in youth-oriented material; he worked on the high school series Sharp as well as the two Jungle Fish projects.

The movie plans to begin filming early next year.

Song Joong Ki visits Singapore for ‘Tony Moly’ fan signing




Actor Song Joong Ki spent a fun time with fans while visiting Singapore last week.

The actor arrived in Singapore on the night of December 18th, and was immediately greeted by his fans as he emerged from the arrival hall at Changi International Airport.

On the 20th, he attended a press conference for the cosmetics brand, Tony Moly (which he endorses for), followed by a fan signing that attracted over 3,000 fans.

During his interview in the midst of his fan signing, Song Joong Ki stated, “I didn’t think so many fans would come to see me, so I’m really happy and thankful. I believe that the only way I can respond to my fans’ support is through good acting, so I’ll be working even harder.”
