Lee Min-ho says impossible for "City Hunter" to follow original work

Korean actor Lee Min-ho has said that he knew it would be impossible for his current TV series "City Hunter" to be the same as the comic it is based on.

He made the remark at a press conference held on the set of SBS' new drama yesterday while responding to a reporter's remark on how the audience thinks the show is different from its original work, a famed comic by Japanese manga artist Tsukasa Hojo.

"After reading a few episodes of 'City Hunter,' I told myself that there won't be much character-wise that I'll be able to carry over from the original comic into my character in the drama," explained Lee, based on his experience with working on dramas based on comics including the highly popular "Boys Over Flowers."

"So I didn't try to differentiate them on purpose but I just tried to act out my character in the way I understood him as being and how I felt about him."

He then added, "The same goes for the plot as well. I think it became dramatized quite a bit because it has to be adapted into a drama so things such as their pain was added in."

"That's why I feel that our production should be called 'City Hunter: The Beginnings' because you could say that all that happens now leads to what happens in the comic."

Making it the first time for the comic to be adapted into a TV series, the Korean drama portrays Lee Yoon-sung, played by Lee Min-ho, who vows to get revenge on his father's death by following through a plan which begins with him working at the Blue House after receiving his doctorate from MIT.

He then meets Kim Nana, played by actress Park Min-young, who is a judo athlete-turned-bodyguard at the presidential office protecting Choi Da-hye, taken on by Gu Hara, who is the youngest daughter of Korea's President.

The show, also starring actors Lee Jun-hyuk and Hwang Sun-hee, is a collaboration by famed producer Jin Hyuk of hit dramas "Brilliant Legacy" and "Princess Prosecutor" and scenarist Hwang Eun-kyung of "New Hit" and "The President."

The drama, just into its second episode now, has fared well so far bringing in viewership ratings in the nine to ten percent range on the Wednesday and Thursday primetime lineup while competing against MBC's "The Greatest Love," starring Cha Seung-won and Kong Hyo-jin, and KBS' "Romance Town" which stars Sung Yu-ri and Jung Kyu-Woon.

Lee Min-ho kept showing signs of interest in Park Min-yeong but she didn't.

...SBS drama "City Hunter" Lee Yoon-seong (Lee Min-ho) tried to change his image by being nice to Kim Na-na (Park Min-yeong) but she was always cold towards him.

At the news that her computer was broken, Lee Yoon-seong ran over to fix it. Even after he was done, Na-na didn't pay any attention to him. When he asked, "I've fixed your computer so do I get a return favor?" she said coldly, "I don't want to have anything else to do with you".

A man called 'daddy long legs' sent Kim Na-na a parcel with a purse and keychain. She was very happy. Offering him a cup of coffee, when Yoon-seong asked what it was, she replied, "It's from someone called 'daddy long legs' whom I like the second in my life".

Seeming like the person who gave her those presents, Yoon-seong mumbled something about shouldn't have given her the presents and stared at Na-na's back.

Production company SSD released behind-the-scenes photos of the cast of “City Hunter” at the set of the popular drama. The photos show actors Lee Min Ho, Park Min Young, Lee Joon Hyuk, and Goo Hara practicing their lines through out their break times.

The cast and crew of “City Hunter” revealed that whenever Lee Min Ho was not filming, he was constantly practicing and reading his script. Throughout filming, the young actor was frequently practicing with fellow actors and going through the script with director Jin Hyuk.

Lee Joon Hyuk, who plays prosecutor Kim Young Joo, lost about 15 pounds for the role. On set, he’s known as one of the hardest working actors. Park Min Young has established herself as the drama’s mascot with her bright smile and great attitude. “City Hunter” is KARA’s Goo Hara’s first acting role; and as such, she has dedicated herself to acting and is constantly reading lines with her co-actors.

Representatives of SSD stated, “We’re very satisfied to see how much dedication and hard work the actors are putting into ‘City Hunter.’ Everything behind productions is going very smoothly, and we hope the viewers continue to anticipate all the things that will happen in the coming episodes of ‘City Hunter.”

“City Hunter” is based on the best-selling Japanese manga by Hojo Tsukasa, which sold over a million copies just in Korea. The original manga by Tsukasa is set in Tokyo during the 1980s, but the drama adaptation takes place in modern day Seoul. “City Hunter” airs every Wednesdays and Thursdays on SBS at 9:55PM KST.

SBS “Good Morning” found the drama shooting site of SBS drama “City Hunter“.

Lee Min-ho who plays Lee Yoon-seong, an MIT doctorate Blue House National Communications team agent, is attempting at his first action drama.

Even though he got hurt on his shoulder from gunpowder debris during the shoot, he still continued filming.

During a break, Lee Min-ho said, “It was awesome but tiring. I started training 3 months before the shoot and I’ve been using my bad wrist a lot for the actions so it’s not well”.

He continued, “I can just barely deal with it”.

“City Hunter” Teases with Couple Shots - Romantic Developments Underway?!




SSD released teaser images of the main lead couple from tomorrow’s episode of “City Hunter.” The photos show Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Min Ho) tending to Kim Nana’s (Park Min Young) wounds. While viewers were aware that Lee Yoon Sung had developed special feelings towards Kim Nana, he acted cool and uncaring towards the judo-athlete-turned-body-guard. In the coming episode, Yoon Sung finally shows Nana part of his actual feelings as he tenderly cares for her wound.

The scene was filmed on May 23rd by an apartment complex somewhere in Seoul, and SSD revealed that the wound on Kim Nana’s face is from her near death incident at the end of fourth episode. Viewers were left with a cliff hanger last Thursday when the drama ended with Jin Pyo, Yoon Sung’s surrogate father, aiming for a shot at Nana’s forehead sniper-style in his quest to take down the “group of five,” before a shadowy figure pushes her to safety.

In the teaser images, Lee Yoon Sung is delicately applying Band-Aids to Nana’s face. Despite his playboy past, Yoon Sung clearly looks nervous and anxious at being so close to her. Nana, on the other hand, does not seem too pleased to receive his care.

Representatives of SSD stated, “While Lee Yoon Sung is this charismatic city hunter to the rest of the world, he’s just a fluttering boy in love in front of Kim Nana.” Despite their bickering chemistry on screen, those on set have stated that actors Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young are great friends and professionals.

“City Hunter” has become one of the most anticipated dramas of 2011; and so far, it does not disappoint. "City Hunter" Teasers of Lee Min Ho in Bathrobe



SSD released teaser stills of blockbuster drama “City Hunter’s” sixth episode. In the photos, Lee Min Ho is wearing nothing but a bathrobe in what seems to be a hotel room. The scene was filmed last Wednesday at a hotel in Seoul; and while he’s already exposed his toned upper body in a shower scene back in episode two, he displayed another level of manliness in this upcoming scene.

In the photos, Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Min Ho) is caught between two women – secret service agent Kim Nana (Park Min Young) and veterinarian Jin Soo Hee (Hwang Sun Hee). Judging from the images, Yoon Sung appears to be flustered to see Nana by his hotel room. While viewers have been expecting a love triangle between Yoon Sung, Nana, and prosecutor Kim Young Joo (Lee Joon Hyuk), the love quadrangle – maybe even a quintangle if you include the President’s daughter Choi Da Hye (Goo Hara) – has caught fans off-guard with its complicated relationships.
